What VAT % is applied in Turkey

Like the UK and much of Europe, VAT is applied on so called, luxury goods and many non-essential items. This means that you will pay a similar amount of VAT to what you would in the UK - 18% is the norm - on most items that you purchase. The VAT applied to funriture is 18% but the VAT applied to white goods - is unfortunately higher at 26%. This makes buying white goods in Turkey appear more expensive than here in the UK or in Europe. The offset to this is that many manufactures provide better warranty schemes - 3 years is quite standard in Turkey for many white goods.
